How to deal with the ‘fake news’ threat
The Bharatiya Janata Party government has taken an unusual approach to the ongoing “fake news” crisis, announcing that all of the state government departments and departments of the Centre and states will be set up under a single central department, which will be the Department of Information Technology.
The move was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.
The department will be tasked with implementing the government’s vision of a digital India, which was announced last year.
“The department has been asked to create a central department for information technology, and create a single government-wide department for the development of digital India.
It will be headed by the Information Technology Minister and headed by a Director General of Information,” the announcement said.
The move will take the state governments out of the loop of the digitalisation of state-owned entities and create the responsibility of the government on a par with the central government.
The government has been facing criticism for the lack of coordination in the digital transformation of state entities, especially those of public health, the environment, the railways, education, and even the railway ministry.
The announcement also stated that a central office will be created for the department, and that it will have the power to create digital infrastructure for the state.
“This central office shall be headed with the support of the Central Board of Direct Taxes and the Central Statistical Institute (CSRI) and it will be empowered to take cognisance of the performance of the departments, institutions and services in the states,” the news release said.
It said that the department would also be empowered with the power of setting up digital platforms for public health and health care.
“These platforms will be designed for the health and wellness of the population, and will enable the states to better monitor their progress in health, and improve the quality of their health services,” it said.
According to a senior government official, the announcement was taken at the request of the central leadership.
“There are various issues which have been addressed.
The idea of establishing a single department is a good idea,” the official said.
